Race for Life 5k

On Sunday, 18th May 2025, my son and I took part in the Glasgow Cancer Research UK (CRUK) 5K.

Given that my cardio isn’t the strongest right now, which is another story!!, we walked most of the course. The day was actually sunny and warm, somewhat of a rarity in Glasgow!

This was a personal "must do" for me as I was diagnosed with bowel cancer in October 2022. After quite a lengthy surgery in November 2022, chemotherapy and an ileostomy reversal op in August 2023 and subsequent follow ups, scans and tests there is no evidence of the disease in my body.

I was fortunate - my cancer was caught early. I received superb care from the NHS.

CRUK has played a vital role in advancing cancer treatments and surgical techniques, many of which undoubtedly contributed to my recovery. My family and I are hugely grateful for their work.

Thanks to the generosity of many people, I was able to raise £760, which is eligible for an additional £190 through Gift Aid. I am really pleased with this...much more than I ever imagined!!

The Glasgow race raised over £700,000 in total sponsorship which will help fund CRUK's further research and development of new treatments. I am proud to have played a small part in this.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. If you can, please consider a donation to Cancer Research UK (CRUK) - https://www.cancerresearchuk.org/.
